The Rolling Stones
Their Satanic Majesties Request - 1966
ON DECCA - ORIGINAL MONO PRESSING (HOLOGRAPHIC COVER)
The Stones first and last foray into psychedelic rock just a few months after the Beatles released Sgt Pepper. The year was 1967 and the Stones, no doubt aided by some mind-bending substances, deviated from their classic rock sound to produce an album that is in truth a mix of wonderful and awful in equal measure. The wonderful is: “2,000 light years from home” and “She’s a rainbow” which stand out from a wandering 8 minute 30 seconds of “Sing this all together” which feels like their heart was never really in it and indeed they returned to their rock roots the following year.
The album cover however is an absolute piece of rock history in its own right. The first ever lenticular 3D image on an album cover showing the band looking suitably psychedelic is quite simply a work of art.
